Hosting

This website is hosted on infrastructure provided by Hetzner. When you visit the website, the hosting provider processes technically necessary connection data, particularly IP addresses, to deliver the website and operate the servers securely.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is the secure and reliable operation of this website. The hosting provider is used as a technical service provider for operating the website.

Server Logs and Self-Hosted Usage Statistics

The following technical access data is processed when you visit this website:

  • requested URL or API route
  • date and time of access
  • HTTP method and HTTP status code
  • referrer, if provided by the browser
  • IP address
  • browser user agent
  • a technical session identifier derived from the IP address and user agent

This data is processed for troubleshooting, detecting misuse, preventing spam, and producing simple self-hosted usage statistics. No external analytics services are used.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is secure operation, troubleshooting, and protecting the website against misuse. The data is not used to create personal profiles.

Comments

Comments can be submitted on individual articles. The following data is processed:

  • comment text
  • name, if provided
  • the associated article
  • submission time
  • IP address
  • user agent
  • a cryptographic hash of the optional secret

The comment text, name, and a short author tag are displayed on the website. The IP address, user agent, and hash of the secret are not published. They are used to manage comments, prevent misuse, and delete comments.

Anyone who knows the secret used when commenting can delete the comments created with it. Comments can also be deleted administratively, particularly in cases of spam, misuse, or unlawful content.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is providing a commenting feature and protecting it against misuse.

Captcha

The commenting feature uses a simple, self-hosted captcha. A random question is generated and stored on the server for a short time. Captcha data is not transferred to external providers, and expired challenges are deleted automatically.

Cookies and Local Storage

This website does not use cookies. The selected light or dark theme may be stored in the browser's local storage. This information remains in the browser and is not automatically sent to the server.

External Content and Links

This website contains links to external websites. The respective providers' privacy rules apply when you follow those links. Individual pages may contain embedded third-party content such as YouTube videos or Google Slides. That content is loaded from the third party only when the relevant page is opened.

Storage Period

Comments are generally stored until they are deleted or are no longer required to operate the commenting feature. Technical access and usage data is stored for as long as it is required for operation, troubleshooting, detecting misuse, or resolving legal matters.

Your Rights

Subject to the conditions of the GDPR, data subjects have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
